The front wall below the entrance hole should feature a rough surface to help the chicks climb to the entrance hole.

 

Nest Boxes for Bluebirds

Avoid urban areas or farmyards

Place in an open pasture about 2-m high to avoid livestock damage

Place near trees

Place two nest boxes a fence post apart so tree swallows and bluebirds can both nest.

Nest Boxes for Wrens

More than one nest box may be required to attract wrens because they build more than one nest. Attach to fence post or tree.
